In a Truth Social post, Trump framed the decision as part of diplomatic progress, claiming that “great progress” had been made in talks with Iranian representatives and that the pause came at the request of Pakistan and other countries.
“Project Freedom… will be paused for a short period of time to see whether or not the Agreement can be finalized and signed,” Trump wrote, while insisting the broader US naval blockade would remain fully in place.
48-hour operation exposes gap between rhetoric and reality
The initiative’s abrupt suspension comes after it effectively lasted no more than 48 hours, raising serious doubts about whether it was ever operational in a meaningful sense.
Despite Washington’s claims that it would guarantee safe maritime passage, regional and maritime sources told Al Mayadeen over the past two days that no sustained US escort operations actually took place in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the IRGC, US claims of tankers passing through the Strait are “baseless and entirely fabricated,” adding that “Any other maritime movements that violate the declared principles of the naval forces of the Revolution Guard will face serious risks, and violating vessels will be stopped by force.”
Blockade continues despite ‘pause’ narrative
While pausing the escort mission, Trump made clear that the US naval blockade targeting Iranian ports and waters remains intact, underscoring that Washington’s pressure campaign has not been eased.
The move has been interpreted as a tactical retreat from a poorly executed initiative rather than a genuine de-escalation, particularly as the blockade continues to restrict maritime activity in the region.
The suspension comes as indirect negotiations between Washington and Tehran continue, reportedly with mediation efforts involving Pakistan.

A spokesperson for the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters has claimed that Iran’s armed forces have not carried out any missile or drone operations against the UAE in recent days.
Ebrahim Zolfaghari, the spokesperson, said in a statement that the UAE should not “become a nest for Americans and Zionists and their military forces and equipment”.
According to the spokesperson, Iran has been subjected to “unfair media attacks, baseless accusations, and propaganda” by the UAE, and the Gulf country has become “one of the main bases for the Americans and Zionists, as enemies of the Islamic world and the main cause of insecurity in the region”.
“We warn that if any action is taken from the soil of the UAE against Iranian islands, ports, and coasts of our country, we will give a crushing and regretful response,” Zolfaghari added. The UAE said yesterday that it reserves the right to respond to Iranian attacks on its soil.

Fires at UAE oil sites stem from US’ reckless actions — Iranian agency
«Iran has blamed fires at oil facilities in the United Arab Emirates on the United States’ attempts to ensure passage of some ships through the Strait of Hormuz, the NourNews agency said» according to TASS Russian News Agency.
According to its sources, Iran did not plan any attacks on oil facilities and what happened is the result of the United States’ reckless actions as it tried to facilitate the illegal passage via navigation routes prohibited by Tehran.
“What happened was a product of the US Army’s adventurism to create a corridor for the illegal passage of ships through the prohibited waterways of the Strait of Hormuz,” the source stated.
He said the American military must take responsibility for the incident, slamming Washington for recklessly endangering regional stability.
The UAE authorities said earlier that a drone attack on an oil facility in the Fujairah Emirate was followed by a strong fire. Three Indian nationals were hurt. The UAE foreign ministry “strongly condemned the renewed Iranian terrorist attacks on civilian facilities” and warned that Abu Dhabi reserves the right to retaliate. Meanwhile, the Iranian state television said that Tehran had no plans to attack the UAE.

U.S. Navy ships were protecting American commercial vessels transiting the strait as part of President Donald Trump’s new mission to guide stranded boats through the critical waterway, one official said.
This statement is only partially true, as confirmed by the IRGC and as can be seen in the video we posted below. The Iranian Navy fired a shot into the water just below the bow of the US warship, intentionally avoiding a strike to avert triggering a new escalation of war.

The US’ Central Command (CENTCOM) has said “no US Navy ships have been struck. US forces are supporting Project Freedom and enforcing the naval blockade on Iranian ports,” it said on X.
The statement contradicts earlier claims by Iran’s Fars News Agency saying two missiles hit a US Navy vessel near Jask after it ignored warnings from the IRGC to halt.

A senior Iranian parliamentarian has warned that any US interference in the new maritime regime of the Strait of Hormuz will be considered a direct violation of the ceasefire, dismissing President Donald Trump’s plan to escort ships through the waterway as “delusional.”
Ebrahim Azizi, head of the Iranian parliament’s foreign policy and national security commission, made the remarks in a social media post on Sunday.
“Any American interference in the new maritime regime of the Strait of Hormuz will be considered a violation of the ceasefire,” Azizi wrote.
“The Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf would not be managed by Trump’s delusional posts! No one would believe blame game scenarios!”

US approves $8.6bn in arms sales to Middle East allies
The Israeli occupation regime has received a fresh delivery of US military equipment, with two cargo vessels transporting approximately 6,500 tons of weapons and logistical assets arriving within the past 24 hours, according to the Israeli Ministry of War.
The sales come after US Secretary of State Marco Rubio cited emergency circumstances to fast-track the transfers without prior review by the US Congress.
The shipments, which docked at ports in Haifa and Ashdod, included a wide range of matériel, among them “thousands of air munitions, ground munitions, military trucks, JLTV combat mobility vehicles, and additional equipment,” the occupation regime ministry said.
The sales include the transfer of an advanced precision kill weapon system (APKWS) and related equipment to Israel for $992m, and the purchase of battle command systems by Kuwait for $2.5bn.
The latest delivery forms part of a broader supply pipeline that has expanded significantly since the outbreak of the war on Iran on February 28. Israeli reime authorities report that more than 115,600 tons of military cargo have been delivered through 403 airlifts and 10 maritime shipments over that period.

The U.S. is withdrawing approximately 5,000 troops from Germany, Pentagon officials said, after President Donald Trump was angered by criticism from the German chancellor over the war with Iran.
Speaking to students in Germany this week, Chancellor Friedrich Merz said the U.S. has “no strategy” and was being humiliated by Iran’s leadership.

At least 16 US military sites in eight Middle Eastern countries were struck, CNN reported, with the damage in some cases severe enough to render the positions virtually inoperable.
The findings suggest that these affected facilities make up most US military positions in the region, according to a congressional aide familiar with damage assessments.
The investigation drew on dozens of satellite images alongside interviews with sources in the United States and Gulf Arab states. A range of assessments has emerged regarding the extent of the damage.
“There has been a spectrum of assessments,” the source told CNN. “From a pretty dramatic side, of the whole facility is destroyed and needs to be shut down, to leaders who say these things are worth repairing due to the strategic benefit they give the US.”
