Iranian military outlines potential response if US attacks power plants

Iran has responded to the “terrorist president of the United States” after Donald Trump threatened if Iran does not open the Strait of Hormuz the country’s power plants will be attacked.

“We have repeatedly said the Strait of Hormuz is closed only to the enemy and to harmful traffic,” said army spokesman Ebrahim Zolfagari on state television. “It has not yet been completely closed and is under our intelligent control and harmless transit – under specific regulations that ensure our security and interests – is allowed.

“However, if the United States carries out its threats against Iran’s power plants the following punitive actions will be taken immediately:

    • The Strait of Hormuz will be completely closed and will not reopen until our damaged power plants are rebuilt.
    • All power plants and the energy and information‑technology infrastructure of Israel will be widely targeted.
    • All similar companies in the region that have American shareholders will be completely destroyed.
    • Power plants in regional countries hosting US bases will be considered legitimate targets.”

Lebanon: Israel targeting bridges is a ‘policy of collective punishment and expansion’

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has condemned Israel’s targeting of key infrastructure in southern Lebanon in a statement carried by the official National News Agency.

Aoun denounced strikes on bridges, including Lebanon’s Qasmiyeh Bridge over the Litani River, calling it a violation of sovereignty and a potential precursor to a “ground invasion.”

Here is what else he said:

    • These actions reflect a dangerous trend toward the systematic destruction of infrastructure, civilian facilities, and residential areas in Lebanese villages, amounting to a policy of collective punishment against civilians.
    • This is unacceptable, condemned, and unjustified, and it explicitly violates the rules of international humanitarian law, which prohibit targeting civilians and their essential facilities.
    • Targeting the Litani River bridges, the vital artery for civilian movement, is an attempt to sever the geographical connection between the southern Litani region and the rest of Lebanese territory, impedes the delivery of humanitarian aid, and falls within suspicious schemes to establish a buffer zone, solidify the reality of the occupation, and seek Israeli expansion within Lebanese territory.
    • Lebanon calls on the international community, particularly the United Nations and members of the Security Council, to assume their responsibilities and take immediate measures to deter Israel from carrying out this attack.
