Jewish Voice for Peace

Three highlights from this year that give me hope.
Dear Stan,

Something amazing happened in Congress this year: we got momentum on our side.
Three highlights that give me hope:
  • The first legislation ever in support of Palestinian rights was introduced!
  • Senator Kirsten Gillibrand pulled her name from anti-BDS legislation, and Senator Elizabeth Warren came out against it.
  • AND 39 Members of Congress publicly stood up for Palestinian activist Issa Amro.
We’re on the cusp of a new era of U.S. congressional support for Palestinian human rights— and 2018 will be crucial.
Can you help us carry this momentum forward with a gift today?  Now is the best time to become a JVP donor at the $18 level, or any amount that works for you. Between now and December 31st, whatever you can give will be doubled..

These brave congresspeople want to know if they’ll be punished or praised for supporting Palestinian human rights.
So if we can show them there’s an unprecedented wave of support from the American Jewish community, we can make this a turning point for U.S. policy.
Already our team inside and outside DC has helped make it politically possible for Members of Congress to stand up for Palestinian human rights. Now we need to make it a political necessity.
Here’s the strategy for 2018:
  • Honesty and integrity: We put our values into everything we do, including thanking and backing up officials who are doing the right thing, and calling out those who should know better.
  • Focus on influential progressives who can do more than just make a stand: we strategically target officials with the ability to bring their peers along, and pull Palestinian human rights closer to the mainstream progressive agenda.
  • Stay focused on building power outside DC: setting up dozens and dozens of district visits, showing up at town halls, and making phone calls, to correct the misperception that all American Jews support Israeli policy all of the time.
But defeating anti-Palestinian and anti-BDS legislation is no simple task. We need to widen our community, to build a broad, diverse, powerful base that can reach the number of elected officials we need to turn around.
Will you help us get there by chipping in what you can today?  Now is the best time to become a JVP donor at the $18 level, or any amount that works for you. Between now and December 31st, whatever you can give will be doubled. Will you join us today?

Nelson Mandela’s famous quote couldn’t be more relevant: “It always seems impossible until it’s done.”
Reversing such ingrained political support will take time— but it’s happened before. It took the U.S. 14 years from the first introduction of anti-apartheid laws against South Africa until they were passed. We’re at the beginning of that journey, but we must never take our eyes off the end.
With Hope,
Rabbi Joseph

P.S. We can make the most of your gift now, before December 31st, because every dollar you give will be instantly doubled. And, with the implementation of Trump’s new tax bill coming down the pike, deductions for charitable donations may be more limited in 2018— so if there was ever a time to stretch in your year-end donations, it’s now. Please consult your financial advisor or tax attorney for details about how this will impact you.
