No doubt the Russian president disliked and despised Nemtsov, but neither he nor any other opposition leader posed any threat to Putin’s power. Thanks in large part to his seizure of Crimea and his military intervention in eastern Ukraine, Putin is currently enjoying an 85 percent approval rating with the Russian public. Why risk upsetting this happy relationship with the first public killing of a senior political figure in more than a decade?

zoals de geenszins radicale 'London-based independent Canadian journalist, syndicated columnist and military historian,' Gwynne Dyer zijn lezers erop attendeerde. Tegenover die 85 procent 'approval rating' heeft 'Nemtsov’s party less than 5%. He was no popular favorite. Most Russians disliked him,' aldus de Amerikaanse goed geïnformeerde auteur en programmamaker Stephen Lendman.

Trust in EU at an all time low latest figures show

Tough economic conditions and high unemployment have eroded trust in the European Union in recent years… Trust in the European Union is at its lowest level since records began in 1997, with less than one in three EU citizens expressing trust in the EU in 2013…All EU countries except Finland and Sweden have seen trust levels drop from 2007, an indication of how citizens rate the EU’s response to the financial crisis that has plagued the eurozone over the past five years.

Unsurprisingly, countries in southern Europe that have faced the worse of the economic hardship and chronic unemployment have shown the steepest decrease, with EU trust ratings in Greece falling 44 per cent, Spain 37 and Portugal 32.

Laagterecord opkomst Europese verkiezingen

http://nieuwsuur.nl/onderwerp/713141-film-leviathan-valt-in-rusland-verkeerd.html

Omdat in het neoliberalisme winst maken het heiligste geloofsartikel is, spreekt Berger van 'the dealers of the Free Market and their corollary, the Mafia,' die weten dat

they now have the world in their pocket. They have. But to maintain their confidence they have to change the meaning of all the words used in languages to explain or praise or give value to life: every word, according to them now, is the servant of profit. And so they have become dumb. Or, rather, they can no longer speak any truth. Their language is too withered for that. As a consequence they have also lost the faculty of memory. A loss which one day will be fatal.

One way or another a society lives in accordance with a value system — an underlying set of rules of how to live. These are taken for granted more deeply than the rules inside a game, and govern speech and thought like a grammar… It is taboo to call them into question… The underlying framework of rules and thought is assumed. Some superficially attribute this to genetic programming, but genes cannot explain why these rules and meta-rules vary from one human group and age to another, or why they so often destroy life rather than confer survival advantage.

My work has specialized in critically understanding social systems at the meta level, and why some ways are ultimately better or worse than others.

De wereldwijde ontwikkeling overziend, beschrijft John McMurtry hoe

within the last 30 years, there has been great sea-change towards one systeem of transnational corporate market rule which is indifferent to this entire life-substructure of humanity and to the consequences of its life-blind rule system. This work is a deep-structural study of that global sea-shift and its systemic consequences for human and planetary life which are not yet connected into a unifying causal explanation and resolution…

As a result, the excavation of the moral inner logic of the globel corporate system and its fatal flaw became the generic issue of this study, and it leads to the life-ground of its resolution. In the simplest profile of the problematic, a world crusade of 'global market freedom and democracy' against 'terrorism' of which the 'communist world' has been the superpower version is the deciding ideological division of the era. Ideology, however, distracts us from our life-ground, and its triumphant form assumes a ruling metaphysic of atomic market agents seeking only more money and commodities for themselves. On top of and rationalizing this ruling value system which is ironically equated to 'freedom,' the ultimate Enemy is resisters — who have been called 'terrorists' since the anti-colonial uprisings in Africa which are pre-dated by the resistance of first peoples against their genocides beginnings centuries ago.

More deeply and widely important on an economic level than the defeat in Vietnam, the abandonment of the gold standard by the US to escape the vast costs of its war was launched at the same time. It left the world without any value base but US money printed at will, and leveraged ever more exponentially by Wall Street and company with growing deregulation to do so.

In fact this is when the long train of financial destabilization, veering wildly into ruin of government programs, workers' jobs and small business with the cranking up of interest rates to over 20 per cent prime in the 1980s and becoming ever more totalized after the fall of the Soviet Union and the repeal of Depression-regulations like Glass-Steagall. As the century turned, working-class gains had been reversed by the race to the bottom of wages, benefits and social legislation by global competition  with no life-standards. The value of money was holding now not by cannibalist interest rates and debt charges, but by slashing workers' incomes and social programs across continents. At the deepest level, life and life-support systems were being increasingly sacrificed, shock-treated and looted with plunging costs for transnational money sequences across the world. The deregulated multiplication now metastasized (verspreiden. svh) through nations, resources and politicians with ever fewer limits propelled by 'market reforms,' trade-treaty edicts prohibiting legislation reducing 'profit opportunities,' and wars on resource rich regions with social control.

In 1970 ninety percent of financial flows were used to finance trade or investment in the real economy; only ten percent was speculative. Today more than ninety-nine percent is purely speculative and has nothing to do with the real economy. As Simon Johnson (Brits/Amerikaanse hoogleraar economie aan het MIT svh) says, 'Wall Street has become a very specific type of casino. Unfortunately it's not the type they have in Las Vegas that is a legitimate form of entertainment. It's a casino that has massive negative effects on the rest of society,'

Four Horsemen:

It was not only allowed, it was actively encouraged by democratically elected governments which were persuaded that deregulating financial markets would rain down great economic benefits on everyone. Whether Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher really believed this, or whether they were motivated by a desire to reinstate the class divisions that had begun to erode in the post-war years, remains a mystery. Whether the neo-classical economists who encouraged them believed in the likelihood of a positive outcome is also impossible to fathom, as is the motivation of left-of-centre administrations which embraced neoliberalism and continued the deregulation of finance.

The Cancer Stage of Capitalism:

From the new multiplied oil-money axis of the Middle East and the US, the world was more and more turned by non-renewable fossil fuel and armament dollars with Saudi and Gulf State oil exchanging for US weapons, armed protection and Wall Street management of the new money stripped out of world industry, workers' incomes and social benefits. Everything connected to everything else. The interlocked restructuring to world rule by self-multiplying private money-sequences disconnected from any real productive or life-function was not recognized or stopped. It was only deregulated more as conflicts and crises built with no response made or allowed to het deadly causal mechanism at work. The crises were not seen as malignant mutations of the system, but as 'getting the fundamentals right' and 'necessary restructuring' for 'the global free market.'

resorted to propagating the fantasy that sustained economic growth would revive if only short-term sacrifices were made -- that is, restrictions on wage rises and welfare benefits -- and strict anti-inflationary policies adopted. This inevitably entailed a tacit retreat from the post-war commitment of full employment and social equity in favor of the corporate agenda -- exemplified by the savage decimation of British industrial capacity brought about by the Thatcher administration in 1980-82. But progressively, as sustained recovery proved illusory -- with recession returning at the start of the 1980s -- the whole strategy became less plausible. A particularly obvious symptom of its failure was that public sector deficits began to rise as a result of continuing stagnation in output growth, resulting in increased calls on public funds -- not least because of higher welfare bills. This was reflected in the fact that the ratio of gross public debt to GDP in the industrialized countries more than doubled (on average) between 1974 and 1997 - to 77 per cent.

Financial Collapse Leads To War

By Dmitry Orlov

Scanning the headlines in the western mainstream press, and then peering behind the one-way mirror to compare that to the actual goings-on, one can't but get the impression that America's propagandists, and all those who follow in their wake, are struggling with all their might to concoct rationales for military action of one sort or another, be it supplying weapons to the largely defunct Ukrainian military, or staging parades of US military hardware and troops in the almost completely Russian town of Narva, in Estonia, a few hundred meters away from the Russian border, or putting US 'advisers' in harm's way in parts of Iraq mostly controlled by Islamic militants.

The strenuous efforts to whip up Cold War-like hysteria in the face of an otherwise preoccupied and essentially passive Russia seems out of all proportion to the actual military threat Russia poses. (Yes, volunteers and ammo do filter into Ukraine across the Russian border, but that's about it.) Further south, the efforts to topple the government of Syria by aiding and arming Islamist radicals seem to be backfiring nicely. But that's the pattern, isn't it? What US military involvement in recent memory hasn't resulted in a fiasco? Maybe failure is not just an option, but more of a requirement?

Let's review. Afghanistan, after the longest military campaign in US history, is being handed back to the Taliban. Iraq no longer exists as a sovereign nation, but has fractured into three pieces, one of them controlled by radical Islamists. Egypt has been democratically reformed into a military dictatorship. Libya is a defunct state in the middle of a civil war. The Ukraine will soon be in a similar state; it has been reduced to pauper status in record time—less than a year. A recent government overthrow has caused Yemen to stop being US-friendly. Closer to home, things are going so well in the US-dominated Central American countries of Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador that they have produced a flood of refugees, all trying to get into the US in the hopes of finding any sort of sanctuary.

Looking at this broad landscape of failure, there are two ways to interpret it. One is that the US officialdom is the most incompetent one imaginable, and can't ever get anything right. But another is that they do not succeed for a distinctly different reason: they don't succeed because results don't matter. You see, if failure were a problem, then there would be some sort of pressure coming from somewhere or other within the establishment, and that pressure to succeed might sporadically give rise to improved performance, leading to at least a few instances of success. But if in fact failure is no problem at all, and if instead there was some sort of pressure to fail, then we would see exactly what we do see.

In fact, a point can be made that it is the limited scope of failure that is the problem. This would explain the recent saber-rattling in the direction of Russia, accusing it of imperial ambitions (Russia is not interested in territorial gains), demonizing Vladimir Putin (who is effective and popular) and behaving provocatively along Russia's various borders (leaving Russia vaguely insulted but generally unconcerned). It can be argued that all the previous victims of US foreign policy—Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria, even the Ukraine—are too small to produce failure writ large enough to satisfy America's appetite for failure. Russia, on the other hand, especially when incentivized by thinking that it is standing up to some sort of new, American-style fascism, has the ability to deliver to the US a foreign policy failure that will dwarf all the previous ones.

Analysts have proposed a variety of explanations for America's hyperactive, oversized militarism. Here are the top three:

1. The US government has been captured by the military-industrial complex, which demands to be financed lavishly. Rationales are created artificially to achieve that result. But there does seem to be some sort of pressure to actually make weapons and field armies, because wouldn't it be far more cost-effective to achieve full-spectrum failure simply by stealing all the money and skip building the weapons systems altogether? So something else must be going on.

2. The US military posture is designed to insure America's full spectrum dominance over the entire planet. But 'full-spectrum dominance' sounds a little bit like 'success,' whereas what we see is full-spectrum failure. Again, this story doesn't fit the facts.

3. The US acts militarily to defend the status of the US dollar as the global reserve currency. But the US dollar is slowly but surely losing its attractiveness as a reserve currency, as witnessed by China and Russia acting as swiftly as they can to unload their US dollar reserves, and to stockpile gold instead. Numerous other nations have entered into arrangements with each other to stop using the US dollar in international trade. The fact of the matter is, it doesn't take a huge military to flush one's national currency down the toilet, so, once again, something else must be going on.

There are many other explanations on offer as well, but none of them explain the fact that the goal of all this militarism seems to be to achieve failure.

Perhaps a simpler explanation would suffice? How about this one:

The US has surrendered its sovereignty to a clique of financial oligarchs. Having nobody at all to answer to, this American (and to some extent international) oligarchy has been ruining the financial condition of the country, running up staggering levels of debt, destroying savings and retirements, debasing the currency and so on. The inevitable end-game is that the Federal Reserve (along with the central banks of other 'developed economies') will end up buying up all the sovereign debt issuance with money they print for that purpose, and in the end this inevitably leads to hyperinflation and national bankruptcy. A very special set of conditions has prevented these two events from taking place thus far, but that doesn't mean that they won't, because that's what always happens, sooner or later.

Now, let's suppose a financial oligarchy has seized control of the country, and, since it can't control its own appetites, is running it into the ground. Then it would make sense for it to have some sort of back-up plan for when the whole financial house of cards falls apart. Ideally, this plan would effectively put down any chance of revolt of the downtrodden masses, and allow the oligarchy to maintain security and hold onto its wealth. Peacetime is fine for as long as it can placate the populace with bread and circuses, but when a financial calamity causes the economy to crater and bread and circuses turn scarce, a handy fallback is war.

Any rationale for war will do, be it terrorists foreign and domestic, Big Bad Russia, or hallucinated space aliens. Military success is unimportant, because failure is even better than success for maintaining order because it makes it possible to force through various emergency security measures. Various training runs, such as the military occupation of Boston following the staged bombings at the Boston Marathon, have already taken place. The surveillance infrastructure and the partially privatized prison-industrial complex are already in place for locking up the undesirables. A really huge failure would provide the best rationale for putting the economy on a war footing, imposing martial law, suppressing dissent, outlawing 'extremist' political activity and so on.

And so perhaps that is what we should expect. Financial collapse is already baked in, and it's only a matter of time before it happens, and precipitates commercial collapse when global supply chains stop functioning. Political collapse will be resisted, and the way it will be resisted is by starting as many wars as possible, to produce a vast backdrop of failure to serve as a rationale for all sorts of 'emergency measures,' all of which will have just one aim: to suppress rebellion and to keep the oligarchy in power. Outside the US, it will look like Americans blowing things up: countries, things, innocent bystanders, even themselves (because, you know, apparently that works too). From the outside looking into America's hall of one-way mirrors, it will look like a country gone mad; but then it already looks that way. And inside the hall of one-way mirrors it will look like valiant defenders of liberty battling implacable foes around the world. Most people will remain docile and just wave their little flags.

But I would venture to guess that at some point failure will translate into meta-failure: America will fail even at failing. I hope that there is something we can do to help this meta-failure of failure happen sooner rather than later.

Dmitry Orlov is a Russian-American engineer and a writer on subjects related to 'potential economic, ecological and political decline and collapse in the United States,' something he has called 'permanent crisis.'

The Guardian) zegt: "The most serious attention should be paid to high-profile crimes, including those with political motives,” Putin told top interior ministry officials on Wednesday. “We need to finally rid Russia of disgraces and tragedies like the one that we have recently endured and seen, I mean the murder, the provocative murder, of Boris Nemtsov right in the centre of the capital.”.

Putin, de gevaarlijkste man ter wereld. Misschien is Hofland eerder weg.
