Hubert Smeets en Geert Mak en Het Internationaal Recht



Een woordvoerder van de Amerikaanse ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken kwalificeerde het Palestijnse verzoek om partij te worden van het International Criminal Court  als, ik citeer, 'entirely counterproductive,' omdat dit verzoek 'badly damages the atmosphere with the very people with whom they ultimately need to make peace.' Met andere woorden: het respecteren van het internationaal recht is 'volkomen contraproductief,' aangezien de zionistische oorlogsmisdadigers, die afgelopen zomer meer dan 500 Palestijnse kinderen hebben vermoord, een vervolging niet accepteren. 

Ik vrees dat de Amerikanen gelijk hebben, ze spreken immers uit ervaring. Toen het Internationaal Gerechtshof de VS veroordeelde vanwege terrorisme tegenover Nicaragua, legde de politieke elite in Washington die veroordeling naast zich neer. Het opmerkelijke nu is dat opiniemakers als Hubert Smeets en Geert Mak die zich zo ziedend hebben gemaakt over de volksraadpleging op de Krim over aansluiting bij de Rusland, nu muisstil zijn over de Israelische voortgaande schendingen van het internationaal recht. Joden mogen wat niet-Joden niet mogen, en wel omdat ze Joden zijn, tenminste in de optiek van Smeets, Mak en consorten. Het is als het ware een vorm van omgekeerd antisemitisme. Joden blijven in die gedachtengang altijd weer de buitenstaanders.

Decides that in adjudicating the dispute brought before it by the Application filed by the Republic of Nicaragua on 9 April 1984, the Court is required to apply the "multilateral treaty reservation"contained in proviso (c) to the declaration of acceptance of jurisdiction made under Article 36, paragraph 2, of the Statute of the Court by the Government of the Untied States of America deposited on 26 August 1946;

Chef Buitenland van Trouw Stevo Akkerman deed gisteren iets dergelijks:

"Door zich te melden als lid van het Internationale Strafhof hebben de Palestijnen een open zenuw geraakt bij hun Israëlische tegenstander. De confrontatie via de internationale route loopt zover op dat de Palestijnen in het uiterste geval de volledige verantwoordelijkheid voor hun gebied weer bij Israël dreigen te leggen, met het reële gevaar van gewelddadige botsingen."

Akkerman beweert hier dat de Palestijnen door hun stap naar het ICC louter de "confrontatie" met Israël opzoeken, waarmee zij zichzelf verantwoordelijk zouden maken voor "het reële gevaar van gewelddadige botsingen". Het is de schuld van de Palestijnen wanneer Israël hen gaat straffen met (nog meer) geweld. Hadden ze maar niet naar het Strafhof moeten stappen. Akkerman noemt geen bron voor deze bewering, dus lezen we hier gewoon zijn eigen mening. Die van tevoren al Israël indekt.
