De Israelische Terreur 415

Two Israeli settlers in the West Bank settlement of Efrat.

'Dear Friends,

Just now Abed from Kief el-Hares phoned me to tell me that the village can expect a visit tonight from settlers accompanied by the military. Actually, the military (or at least some soldiers) are already there near the grave of Yohoshua Bin Nun (the Joshua that 'fit the battle of Jericho,' as the song has it), and are setting up tents along with tables with food and soft drinks. The army informed the mayor of the village today that the residents could expect a night visit from settlers (a few of whom are already there helping to prepare for the larger crowd later). From the amount of food, tents, etc., Abed (who lives right across the street from the graves) believes that there will be a large group of settlers, accompanied by soldiers, of course.

The visits of the settlers to the graves have increased, and now occur almost nightly, but usually with only a few settlers at a time (always in the middle of the night). Tonight there will be many. It is not a holiday. I don't know what the occasion is. But these visits are always a trial for the villagers. When the settlers come, the residents of the village are not allowed out of their houses. Closure is declared for the village from midnight till dawn. The settlers are noisy, often throw rocks at the houses, break car windows, and in general do as they will without giving a thought to those who reside in the village. And besides, who is paying for all the goodies? The military? The government? Is this where the Israeli taxpayer's money goes? Considering that Israel has no money for health, education, social benefits, or shelters for the residents of Sderot, it is interesting to find that it has the money to pay for a night-on-the-town for settlers.

Please protest to the army now by phone, and follow up with protest letters to the addresses below. It is useful for Israel to know that the world is watching its acts.

I would be much interested in replies that you receive.

Thanks,
Dorothy

PS in case the person you speak to asks where Kief el-Hares is, it is in the Salfit governate, and is directly across the road from Ariel.
